New Year, My Wardrobe and Miche

1/1/2014

Each New Year's Day, I wake up with tons of good intentions and thoughts about how this year will differ from last year.

Health goals as well as weight loss are always high on my list at the beginning of the year and drift in and out of top place as the year progresses.

Last January 1st, I had to refocus as I broke my foot in December and in mid-January, slipping on the stairs wearing my lovely "boot" lead to painful frozen shoulder that I am almost over. Then came my latest "I'm really not a klutz" injury - again, mid-December 2013 - falling over stuff in my dark hallway resulting in bruised knees and a broken arm that has me typing one-handed-hunt-and-peck-method (I type about 95 words a minute and on the computer 8-12 hours a day) so to say I'm frustrated is an understatement!

So what does this have to do with my wardrobe?
  1. I have to rethink how I'm going to reach my goal of a one-size-of-clothes closet, preferably a size or two smaller than I am currently wearing
  2. How do I get a clean, ORGANIZED closet
Does your closet look like this? Follow the journey to organized
Ok, I admit it. I looked for a photo on-line of a messy closet, but nothing came close to mine and the disaster it has become. You can even see my shoe shelves behind the clothes hanging off my drawers and I can't get to them.

I'd like to blame it all on my broken arm and say this all happened in the last 12 days, but all my life I've struggled with messy closet syndrome!

I could say living in Southern California and I don't store out-of-season clothes in the attic because I might need something tomorrow when it again hits 85 in January, but that's not it either.

Some days (that turn into weeks), it's just easier to throw stuff on the floor than to hang it up or put it in the hamper! (My husband folds or hangs up his dirty clothes so they don't wrinkle as much in the wash - so he says - so sharing a closet with me all these years has been an experience.)

So, my goal for January, 2014, is
  • to organize my closet (duh!)
  • if I try it on and don't like it, adios!
  • if it doesn't fit, adios!
  • if I've had it since my college age son was in junior high, adios!
  • if it's "not my color", adios!
  • if it's worn or faded, adios!
  • if it still has price tags on a year later, adios!
  • shoes I haven't worn in two years, no matter how cute, gone!
  • this will be a month long project (not an empty it all out and put it back in 8 hours type of girl and my broken arm is a great excuse to drag this out at least 30 days)

While I'm trashing, organizing and giving my outcasts to charity, as I discover favorite outfits, I'm going to find one spot to hang them so they don't get mixed up in the cleaning confusion. I'm thinking of taking a selfie of them too so I can either see how I really look (camera adds 30 lbs, right?) or so I remember what to wear next time I have nothing to wear.

To help make my outfits feel fresh, I'm going to make an effort to change my Miche Bag to coordinate with each outfit. One of the perks of being a Miche representative is that I have a fabulous collection to pick from!  Do you pick your handbag and accessories first or your outfit first?

I carry the Demi most of the time or the Classic when I can streamline my purse essentials. These are my favorites I've been carrying the last few weeks:
